Winston Curtis Barfield

Winston Curtis Barfield, 96, of Statesville, passed away May 14, 2017 at the Gordon Hospice House. He was born Oct. 4, 1920 in Roanoke, Alabama to the late Robert L. and Sally Yarbrough Barfield. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by six sisters and two brothers. Mr. Barfield attended Randolph County Schools in Alabama and on May 31, 1946 married Gladys Morgan Barfield who preceded him in death on July 13, 2011. They shared over 64 years of marriage before her passing. Winston was part owner-operator with his brother, Bob, of Bob's Amoco on Davie Avenue from 1954 to 1967 and later co-partners in Barfield's Fence Company located in Longwood, Florida with his brother, AJ. Winston is survived by a daughter, Joyce Corwin (Doyle); a son, Ron Barfield, daughter-in-law, Jeanie Davis Barfield; five grandchildren, Cheryl Heatherly, Jeff Corwin, Greg Corwin, Wesley Barfield, and Nicole Nelson; three great grandchildren; sister-in-law, Hazel Barfield; brother-in-law, Bus Morgan (Mabel); special friend and caregiver, Tammy Boland; and many nieces and nephews. The family would like to thank all the caregivers at Iredell Memorial Hospital, Dr. Fred Marks, Jurney's of Statesville, and Hospice of Iredell County. Funeral services will be held 1:30 pm Wednesday, May 17, 2017 at Sharon Lutheran Church with Pastor Gene Bruce officiating. Burial will be held at 3:30 pm at Rowan Memorial Park. The family will visit with friends from 12:30 to 1:30 at the church prior to the service. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Hospice and Palliative Care of Iredell, Sharon Lutheran Church, or to Forest Home Church in Roanoke, Alabama.
