William Donald Austin

July 15, 1945 — February 13, 2019

Mr. William Donald (Duck) Austin, 73, of Statesville, died Wednesday, February 13, 2019 at the Gordon Hospice House. Born in Caldwell County on July 15, 1945, he was a son of the late Clyde William Austin and Opal Irene Holden Austin.



In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Michael Lee Raper, two brothers, Earl Thomas Austin and Roger Dale Austin.



Mr. Austin was a veteran of the U.S. Army and a charter member of the Church Of Resurrection Hope in Lenoir and was a retired long distance truck driver. He enjoyed fishing, the outdoors, mowing, travelling and especially going to Pigeon Forge.



Survivors include his wife, the former Irene Peacock, two sons, Donald Swallows (Shelia) and Robert Duncan, a daughter, Jamie Rector, a brother, Ralph Austin (Gloria) and a sister, Rachel Baldwin (Dennis) and a sister-in-law, Rose Marie Austin. Also surviving are grandchildren: Mary Swallows, John Beavers and Wayne Duncan and a great grandchild, James Long along with several beloved cousins, nephews and friends.



Funeral services are scheduled for 3:00 P.M. Saturday, February 16, 2019 at Nicholson Funeral Home with Rev. Michael Medlock and Rev. Dennis Baldwin officiating. The family will greet friends for one hour prior to the service and burial will follow at the Grassy Knob Baptist Church Cemetery with full military rites presented by the North Iredell American Legion Post # 113.
