William Cline Robertson

The Cool Spring Community lost one of its most caring, benevolent citizens November 25, 2017 at 12:30 P.M. when William C. (Bill) Robertson passed away at Forsyth Medical Center following a severe stroke on Friday. Mr. Robertson was born May 27th, 1934 and was the son of the late Bristol Cline Robertson and Hazel Mae York Robertson. He was married July 20, 1957 to Viola ("Tootie") Goforth Robertson by Rev. G. D. White at Mount Vernon Baptist Church. They celebrated 60 years of marriage. They spent their whole married life in the Cool Spring community. He was a 1952 graduate of Harmony High School. He entered N.C. State University and quit at the end of the first semester to help the family business because of the illness of his father. He continues his education by graduating at Lenoir Rhyne College and was a member of the marching band and Theta Khi Fraternity. He received his Masters and EDS degrees at Appalachian State University. He began teaching Biology, physics and Chemistry at Cool Spring High School in 1957 and taught until the school-consolidation of 1966. He was then appointed principal, staying at Cool Spring Elementary for a total of 25 years. He went to East Elementary for one year and to Celeste Henkel Elementary for 2 years before going to the Central office of Iredell-Statesville Schools as an administrator until retirement. He returned to the system to work 5 more years part time. He loved working with children and always encouraged them to do their best. He was instrumental in helping build the new Cool Spring United Methodist Church in 1970. He served as Sunday School Superintendent and taught the Adult Sunday School Class, while serving on the Administrative Board. He was a tenor member of the choir since its formal inception under Mary Davis, deceased wife of former minister and friend, Rev. Don Davis. Besides his principalship, Bill had a dairy farm and milked cows on weekends to relieve his employee. He converted that enterprise to beef cattle during the last half of his educator career. He also helped oversee his father's tobacco, fertilizer and ginning corporations during his early career years as well. Despite his hard work, he loved to entertain people and have a good time. He was always good for a tale or a laugh. He was especially skilled at grilling and fed thousands of steaks to NC citizens during his non-profit service. He was involved in many fund raisers and served on copious committees including the East Iredell Lions Club (he was the last living Charter Member), The Iredell County Recreation Board, and was a Charter Member of the Cool Spring Ruritan Club. He was also a charter member of the Cool Spring Volunteer Fire Department and volunteered many night shifts at the headquarters while also serving as an officer on numerous boards. His favorite hobbies included camping and traveling with Christian Tours. Bill & Tootie traveled with many dear friends, including Ann and the late Blaine Beaty, while seeing many Western states. Survivors include his wife, Tootie, sons: Dr. Dwayne ("Dr. Rob") Robertson, (wife Dana), and Dirk Robertson (husband James Sands) of Lewisville, a sister, Lorraine Dobson (husband Lolo) of Concord, Grandchildren: Kirsten Garcia (husband Carlos), and Katelyn Robertson (friend John Morgan), Dominique Wyatt (husband Nathan), Michaela Karriker, Lauren Gibson (husband Steve) and Carli White, and one highly beloved great-granddaughter (‘Paw-Paw's Pride") Laila Montgomery. Nicholson Funeral Home is handling the arrangements, and both the visitation and funeral services are scheduled for Tuesday, November 28, 2017 at Cool Spring United Methodist Church, 1902 Mocksville Highway, Cleveland, N.C. 27013. Visitation will be from 12:00 to 2:15 and the funeral will be at 3:00 followed by graveside services at Oakwood Cemetery in Statesville. The service will be conducted by Rev. Thomas Jones. Pallbearers will include friends of the family: Thomas Beaty, Al Jones, Jeff Drye, Terry Martin, Carlos Garcia, Shane Porter and Joey Dagenhart. The Robertsons are grateful for many friends and loved ones who want to remember Bill.
