William "Billy" Robert Sells III, 72, of Statesville, passed away Saturday, December 09, 2017 at Iredell Memorial Hospital. He was born on March 28, 1945 in Iredell County to the late William R. Sells Jr. and Alda Cloninger Sells. Billy was a graduate of Statesville Senior High School and was married to Sheila Dagenhart Sells who preceded him in death on November 1, 2012. They shared over 49 years of marriage before her passing. He started his career as a route salesman for Carpet Rentals and worked as a Supervisor at Clark Equipment. Billy was member of Western Avenue Baptist Church where he had served as a Deacon, Sunday School teacher, and various boards through the years. He was also a member of the Percy Travis/Wayne Craddock Sunday School Class. He was very disappointed that his health kept him from being as active as he once was. Billy loved the Lord and his family. He valued his family and was always willing to share with anyone who would listen about what was going on. Often, he referred to his grandchildren as the kids and great grands as the babies. Billy in younger years loved to dance especially shagging. Many Friday nights, he could be found at Grace Park, shagging and competing. Billy's love of music was passed down to his children as well as his love of the Lord. He was truly loved and will be greatly missed. Along with his parents and wife, Sheila, he was preceded in death by infant twin sisters. Left to cherish his memory are four daughters, Kelly Strider (Jimmy), Tracy Kurfees (Chris), Leslie Brown (Jay), and Jaden Sells, along with one son, William Robert "Robbie" Sells IV. He is also survived by 10 grandchildren, Tyler and Sam Daugherty, Chase Sells, Bryce Kurfees, Cordie Mathews (Christian), Wil and Lawson Brown, and Morgan, Troy and Mary Sells; and three great grandchildren, Ansley, Stewart, and Lila. Funeral services will be held 2:00 pm Thursday, December 14, 2017 at Western Avenue Baptist Church with Dr. Jeff Spry and Dr. Andy Lackey officiating. Burial will follow in Oakwood Cemetery. Pallbearers will be his grandsons along with Todd Everidge, Scott Pence, Todd Gaither, and Chris Dagenhart. The family will visit with friends at the church prior to the service from 12:30 until 1:45 pm. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Western Avenue Baptist Church, 1206 Museum Road, Statesville, NC 28625 or to St. Judes Children's Hospital. Online condolences may be made to the family at www.nicholsonfunerals.com and Nicholson Funeral Home is serving the family.
