William "Bill" Theodore Hayes, 75, of Statesville, went to be with his Lord and Savior on Monday, December 18, 2017 after a courageous 15-year battle with cancer. He was born August 4, 1942 in Iredell County to the late Roy Lee and Laura Irene Hedrick Hayes. Mr. Hayes was a graduate of Harmony High School and was retired from Consolidated Freightways. He was very proud to be a member of the Teamster's Union. He was married on March 9, 2009 to Marith Elaine Payne Hayes, who preceded him in death on June 20, 2015. Bill was a member of Rose Chapel United Methodist Church. He was a loving father and grandfather and had a life-long passion for fishing. Left to cherish his memory are a son, Brad Hayes(Kim) of Greensboro; a daughter, Wendy Arnette (Casey) of Statesville; a granddaughter, Sally Hayes; four grandsons, Will Hayes, Tucker Arnette, Kepley Arnette, and Brennan Mayberry; a step-son, Mark Mayberry; a sister, Nancy Allison; nephew, Kelly Starnes (Elizabeth) and their children, Nick and Ross; and his loyal dog, Millie. A Memorial Service will be held 2:00 pm Saturday, December 23, 2017 at Rose Chapel United Methodist Church with Rev. Ralph Lepley officiating. The family will visit with friends following the service. There will be a private family internment held at a later date. The family would like to thank Dr. Dan George at Duke Cancer Center, Dr. Pam Sholar and Emily, and the Gordon Hospice House for the love and care they provided Bill. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Rose Chapel UMC, 813 Turnersburg Hwy, Statesville, NC 28625 or to the Gordon Hospice House, 2341 Simonton Road, Statesville, NC 28625.
