William "Bill" Cowan Holland

November 29, 1924 — October 26, 2017

William "Bill" Cowan Holland, 92, of Statesville, went home to be with the Lord on Thursday, October 26, 2017. He was born on November 29, 1924 to the late Eugene and Anna Summers Holland. He shared 55 years of marriage with his wife, Rachel Tucker Holland before her homecoming, November 18, 2002 Mr. Holland was a graduate of Statesville Senior High School and served in the U.S. Army during WWII. He was discharged in Iran and was employed there with TWA Airlines. After returning to the states, he was plant engineer for Warlick Paint Company for 30 years. He was owner of Holland's Grocery Store and was a builder and contractor. Bill was a dealer for Fisher Aircraft and enjoyed flying. He also was in maintenance at Statesville Manor where he and his wife volunteered. Mr. Holland was very active in church work and was a charter member of Oakdale Baptist Church and Wayside Baptist Church where he was a Deacon for both churches. He later became a member of Forest Park Presbyterian Church and was active until his health declined. Along with his parents and wife, Rachel, he was preceded in death by two brothers and two sisters. Left to cherish his memory are his foster daughter, Rena Roberts, and several nieces and nephews Funeral Services will be held 3:00 pm Monday, October 30, 2017 at the Nicholson Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Blaine Keaton and Rev. Joe Dellinger officiating. Burial with military honors provided by the Iredell County Veterans Burial Detail will follow in the Oakwood Cemetery. The family will visit with friends at the funeral home prior to the service from 1:30 until 2:45pm. The family would like to thank the Iredell Infusion Care and Iredell Memorial Radiology for the special care given to Mr. Holland the past 3.5 years. Also, a special thanks to Drs. Reindollar, Mike Miller, Bohoussein and Grimm for their care. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Judes Hospital for Children.
