William "Bill" Albert Shoemaker

William "Bill" Albert Shoemaker, 90, passed away at the Gordon Hospice House on February 6, 2016 after a period of declining health. He was born in Iredell County on January 31, 1926 to the late Roy and Oshiel Dingler Shoemaker. Mr. Shoemaker served his country proudly in the US Army during WWII and he was a guard at the Nuremberg War Trials. On September 11, 1948, he married the love of his life, Audrey Miller and they were happily married for over 67 years. He was a route salesman for Beroth Oil (Myers Oil Company) for 38 years. Left to cherish his memory are his wife, Audrey Miller Shoemaker; two daughters, Carolyn Lamb and Dianne Wilson (Harold); granddaughters, Angela Thomas (Brett) of Roanoke, VA and Elizabeth Greenhalgh (Mark) of Huntersville, NC; and great grandsons Ryan and Reid Thomas. He is further survived by a sister, Iris Harrelson of Georgetown, SC and sisters-in law Bonnie Miller and Edith Miller, along with many loving nieces and nephews. Funeral services for Mr. Shoemaker will be held 12:00 Noon on Tuesday, February 9, 2016 at St. John's Lutheran Church with Rev. Ernest Sheldon officiating. Burial with full military honors provide by the Iredell County Veterans Burial Detail will follow at Oakwood Cemetery with Rev. Ernest Sheldon and Rev. Tom Corbell officiating. The family will visit with friends one hour before the funeral service at St. John's. Pallbearers will be nephews Blaine Gregory, Scott Gregory, Matthew Gregory, Clyde Gurley, and neighbors Jeff Templeton, Scott Coble, and Roger Jenkins. The family wishes to thank Dr. Fred Marks, the ICU staff at Iredell Memorial Hospital and the loving and caring staff at Gordon Hospice House for all the excellent, compassionate care given our beloved husband/father/grandfather.
