Willa Mae Prevette Hinson, 88 of Statesville, died at the Mitchell Mack Hospice House on Sunday, September 8, 2024. She was born in Wilkes County on October 12, 1935, to the late Noah Prevette and Myrtle Anderson Prevette. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Robert Hinson, a daughter, Rhonda Privette, and a granddaughter, Angela Jarvis.
During her life, Willa enjoyed working outside, mainly in her garden, and loved cooking for her family. She was a devoted member of Eastside Baptist Church for many years where she served as a Sunday school teacher for the “tiny tots” and volunteered in the nursery so parents could hear the word of God while their children were cared for. Willa was a pillar in the Hinson family with strong values, morals and faith. It always made her smile when she was able to share the gospel with other folks. She loved to be surrounded by family whether it be for a casual visit or for a supper date that she organized to get us all together. She was a wonderful cook and never hesitated to offer a warm meal no matter what she had going on. She had a heart of charity and strongly believed in serving others. In her early years, she stayed home with her two children. Once older, she would clean houses to earn income for the family and would continue until she retired with her husband (Robert Hinson). Over the last several years, Willa enjoyed car rides with her sister, Phoebe, roaming the countryside and visiting places from their childhood days. Her life impacted all of us in the best of ways.
Those left to cherish her memory include a son, Larry Hinson, five grandchildren, Sherrill Ann Hedrick, Danny Davis (Marci), Matthew Davis (Stacy), Nicholas Hinson (Jessica), Christine Patino (Andres), 14 great-grandchildren, a sister, Phoebe Lindley, and several nieces and nephews.
A funeral service will be held Friday, September 13, 2024, at 11:00 am at East Side Baptist Church with Pastor Jon Acker officiating. Burial will follow at Iredell Memorial Gardens. The family will visit with friends from 10:00 am to 11:00 am prior to the service.
The family would like to send a very special thank you to all the staff associated with Hospice & Palliative Care of Iredell County and the S. Mitchell Mack Hospice House. This team was truly caring and comforting. They provide the best quality care to someone who has lost the ability to care for themselves. It takes special folks to endure the inevitable that comes in that field. So, from the family of Willa Hinson, thank you all for everything that you did, every kind word you shared, and the compassion you consistently showed to our grandmother during this time.
Memorials may be made to Hospice and Palliative Care of Iredell County, 2347 Simonton Rd., Statesville, NC 28625.
Nicholson Funeral Home is honored to serve the Hinson family.
