Lewis Wesley "Wes" Lytton, 81, of Statesville, passed away Monday, August 13, 2018 at Iredell Memorial Hospital. Born in Catawba County on July 1, 1937 Wes was the son of the late Fred H. Lytton and Zula Christenbury Lytton.
He was a graduate of Scotts School and on October 8, 1955 he married Patsy Sue Josey Lytton, who preceded him in death on July 7, 2016.
Wes was a man of many ventures in life. He never shied away from work and could be considered an intrapreneur. Wes would go through neighborhoods and pick up papers for recycling before recycling bins were available. He first started his working career as owner/operator of American Service station and simultaneously was owner/operator of Iredell Ice & Fuel where he would deliver ice to families along with coal for heating. He also worked for the City of Statesville as an assistant supervisor with the water department. Wes started Wes Lytton Co. and was owner/operator of the company until his retirement. During all of his adventures, he also worked with the Civil Air Patrol. His impact on the community was a far reach and he will be missed.
Wes was a man who loved his Lord. He was a member of Beulah Baptist Church where he was instrumental in organizing and scheduling for the Baptist Men's Mission Trips and the Foreign Missions Trips. Prior to that, he served as youth director at Monticello Baptist Church for many years as well as a deacon. He was also a R.A. Leader for the royal ambassadors. But his service to his Lord didn't end there. On Saturdays he would be out with the Yokefellows Wood Ministry where he would cut and split wood for folks in the community who could not afford heating wood or was unable to cut it themselves. He would also go to local truck stops on Sunday morning to hold church services for truck drivers who were not able to attend church.
In addition to his wife Patsy, Wes was preceded in death by four siblings, Hugh Lytton, Jean Gilland, Nancy Lackey and Caleb Lytton.
Wes Lytton is survived by one son, David Lytton of Statesville, two daughters, Cindy Chapman (Rusty) of Statesville and Tina Johnson (Scott) of Stony Point, along with 7 grandchildren: Crystal Lytton, Wesley Lytton, Stephanie Hairyes Bason (Aaron), Matthew Johnson, Shane Cashion, Kaylyn Chapman and Cody Chapman and 2 great grandchildren Paris and Ethan King. He is also survived by four siblings, Patsy Koutsogeorgas (George), Sara Tate, Benny Lytton (Linda) and Libby Long (Nevin) along with a host of nieces and nephews.
