W.C. Madison Sr

Weisner Clay Madison, Sr., 82, of Statesville, passed away Thursday, November 27, 2014 at Iredell Memorial Hospital. He was born in Iredell County on May 4, 1932 to the late C.E. Madison and Ina Belle Weisner Madison. Mr. Madison attended Union Grove School and served in the U.S. Air Force from 1951 until 1955. On April 14, 1951, he married Joyce Ann Sloan Madison and they enjoyed 63 years of marriage before her death on May 24, 2014. He was a truck driver who in earlier years drove a milk truck and farmed. He drove for Southern Screw Company, Hennis Freight Line, and retired from Douglas and Sons. He was an Ancient, Free and Accepted Mason and was a member of the Olin Masonic Lodge. He was also a long time member of Mt. Vernon Baptist Church. He enjoyed his family, Southern Gospel Music, hunting, fishing, and his dogs. In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by a grandchild, Aaliyah Schulze and a sister, Odena Vanhoy. Those left to cherish his memories are three sons, Kenny "Dolly" Madison of Olin, W. Clay Madison and wife, Anita of Statesville, and Eugene "Fuji" Madison of Olin; two daughters, June Walker and husband Rayford of Statesville, and Patricia Gaither and husband Martie of Olin; and eight grandchildren, Trent Caviness (Julie), Scott Caviness (Tina), Madison Caviness (Amanda), Matthew Caviness (Emily), Shannon Schulze, Daniel Gaither, Shannon Griggs, and Nichole Onley; and thirteen great grandchildren. He is further survived by a brother, Thomas Ray Madison (Katie) of Trinity, NC; two sisters, Elwanda Fields (Dave) of W. Africa and Laula Walker of Reidsville, NC; and a number of nieces and nephews. Funeral services for Mr. Madison will be held 2:30 PM Sunday, November 30, 2014 at Mount Vernon Baptist Church with Rev. David Childress officiating. Burial with military honors provided by the Iredell Veterans Burial Detail will follow in the church cemetery. The body will lie in state from 2:00 until 2:30 prior to the service. The family will visit with friends at the church following the graveside service.
