Wayne Taylor

Wayne William Taylor, 80, of Statesville, passed away Sunday, Sept. 18, 2011 at Davis Hospital. Mr. Taylor was born Nov. 22, 1930 in Harmony, NC and was the son of the alte Will Taylor and Mary Lee Everidge Taylor. He graduated from Harmony High School in 1948 and in 1953, he married Eva Mae MaHargue Taylor, who survives. Mr. Taylor served in the U.S. Army from 1951-1953. He was retired from Bernhardt Furniture as Area Superintendent. In addition to his parents, Mr. Taylor was preceded in death by three sisters, Cordie Stiers, Lucille Wood and Jennive Hayes. Along with his wife, Eva M. Taylor of the home, Mr. Taylor is also survived by a son, Jerry Taylor of Hamptonville, two daughters, Lynne Barringer of Statesville, Dianne Taylor of Statesville and a granddaughter, Brittany Barringer of Boone, NC. He was an avid sports fan, and a huge fan of the Duke Blue Devils and Atlanta Braves. He was a very talented baseball player and was well known in the Harmony and Statesville Area. He also played baseball for the Presido Baseball Team, while he served in the Army. He excelled in most sports, including basketball, bowling and golf. He enjoyed spending time with his children and especially his granddaughter, Brittany Barringer. Services celebrating Mr. Taylor's life will be conducted 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 21, 2011 in the Nicholson Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will follow in the Iredell Memorial Gardens Cemetery. The family will receive friends Tuesday evening 6:00-7:30 p.m. at Nicholson Funeral Home. Flowers will be accepted or memorials may be made to the Gordon Hospice House, 2341 Simonton Rd., Statesville, NC 28625.
