Virginia Asay

Virginia Waugh Asay died Tuesday September 9, 2014, at Marian Medical Center in Santa Maria, CA. Born on May 4, 1924 in Statesville, NC to Grace Lee Waugh and George Francis Waugh, Virginia was raised in Statesville, NC and attended Statesville Public Schools. While still in High School she started working for Bell South as a telephone operator and remained with Bell South for the remainder of her 45 year career, rising through the management ranks. Throughout her life Virginia was a devout Christian and proud member of the Southern Baptist Church. She is survived by her husband Charles V. Asay of Santa Maria, CA, David F. Waugh and Randolph S. Waugh, both of Orlando, FL, and Cheryl E. Oakes, of Charlotte, NC, as well as many great and grand nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her mother and father as well as her sister Marjorie Waugh-Cruse of Concord, NC, and former husband Vance Kennerly of Charlotte, NC. Visitation was held on Saturday, September 13, 2014 at 12 noon at Dudley-Hoffman Mortuary Chapel with a funeral services following at 1:00 PM. Graveside committal rites will be conducted at 1:00 PM Thursday, September 18, 2014, in Oakwood Cemetery in Statesville.
