Vaughn Sprinkle

Vaughn Walter Sprinkle, 65, of Statesville, passed away unexpectedly Monday, August 18, 2014 at Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center. He was born in Iredell County on May 7, 1949 to the late Floyd Wesley Sprinkle and Flora Dell Henderson Sprinkle. Vaughn was a graduate of the first class at North Iredell High School in 1967, attended Lees-McRae College on a basketball scholarship, and received a Bachelors and Masters Degrees in Agricultural Economics and Education from North Carolina State University. In 1975, he married his former wife, Janie Mayberry Sprinkle, who survives. For many years, he worked in agriculture related businesses with International Minerals and Chemicals, Chilean Nitrate, Goldkist, and Southern States. For the past 10 years, he taught in the Agriculture Department of North Iredell High School and had just retired August 1, 2014. Vaughn was an Ancient, Free, and Accepted Mason and was a member and past Master of the Snow Creek Masonic Lodge. He was a former member and Chairman of the Iredell/Statesville School Board and was very active in the North Iredell FFA and Capital Improvement Organization. He was a member of Friendship United Methodist Church where he was a lay speaker, Sunday school teacher, and a member of the choir. He was a former member of New Prospect Church. He loved going to N.C. State football games with his sons, golfing, and chasing trains with his son Travis. Mr. Sprinkle is survived by two sons, Travis Vaughn Sprinkle and Luke Wesley Sprinkle, both of the home, one brother, Floyd Steven Sprinkle, (Margaret) of Davidson, along with one nephew, Mark Steven Sprinkle (Robin) and two nieces, Stephanie S. Austin (Todd) and Michelle S. Hamby (Billy), all of Statesville. He is also survived by his mother-in-law, Iris Loyd Mayberry of Union Grove and brother-in-law, David C. Mayberry of Charlotte. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his father-in-law, Billy H. Mayberry. Funeral services for Mr. Sprinkle will be conducted 3:00 PM Friday, August 22, 2014, at Friendship UMC with Rev. Dr. Judy Erudy and Kate Morrison officiating. Burial with Masonic Rites will follow in the New Prospect Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will visit with friends from 1:00 until 3:00 PM Friday at Friendship UMC. Active pallbearers will be Mark Sprinkle, Kent Daniels, R.B. Sloan, Jr., Aaron Baggerly, Tommy Guy, Dean Sprinkle, Gary Davis, and Kevin Robertson. Honorary pallbearers will be William Walker, Ted Clayton, Bryant York, Alan Williams, and Dan Williams. Memorials may be made in honor of Mr. Sprinkle to Capital Improvements of NIHS or to the NIHS FFA, 156 Raider Road, Olin, NC 28660.
