Tony William Harris, 78, of Statesville, passed away Wednesday, September 12, 2018 at Mountain Valley Hospice of Yadkinville. He was born in Iredell County on September 1, 1940 to the late William Espy Harris and Mattie Tomlin Harris.
Tony was a graduate of Central School and was married in 1977 to Edith Faye McHargue, who survives. They shared over 41 years of marriage before his passing. He was retired from Evans and Eller Construction Company where he was a construction superintendent. Tony grew up on the family farm and after retirement he continued to enjoy the farm. He opened his family farm up to a non-profit tractor pull organization which created a huge tractor pulling family. Tony was a hard worker and was iron fisted at times but his love was never ending. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather and friend who will be missed dearly.
Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by five brothers, Jigs, Pete, Homer, Dood and Coot Harris and one sister Mary Grace.
Left to cherish his memory are his wife, Edith; three daughters, Donna Gutierrez (Miguel) of Kernersville, Pam Stroud of Harmony, and Diane Holcombe (Sonny) of Statesville; one son, Adam Harris (Stephanie) of Union Grove; five grandchildren, Madison, Dylan, Sabrina, Dustin, and Jeremy and six great grandchildren, Cody, Easton, Greyson, Ali, Emily, and Kaley.
Funeral services will be held 11:00 am Saturday, September 15, 2018 at Liberty Baptist Church with Rev. Roger Holland and Rev. Joe Dellinger officiating. Burial will follow in the Liberty Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will visit with friends Friday evening from 6:00 until 8:00 pm at Nicholson Funeral Home.
