Sue Hines

Margaret Susan "Sue" Sharpe Hines, 88, of Statesville, passed away Wednesday, June 18, 2014 at the Gordon Hospice House. Mrs. Hines was born on May 6, 1926 to the late Chester and Lola Morris Sharpe in Graves County, KY. Shortly after her birth, the family brought their baby daughter and moved to Statesville, NC. Sue grew up in Statesville and in 1943 graduated from Celeste-Henkel High School. After a Secretarial Course at Mitchell College, she went to work at Scarborough Chevrolet in the Parts Department. She was married to Gene S. Hines on July 6, 1947, who survives of the home. In the early 1980s a friend persuaded Sue and Gene to take Western Square Dance lessons. They enjoyed do-si-doing, for many years and made many friends in Statesville and surrounding towns. They later helped form a Square Dance Camping Club and combined two past times they both enjoyed. In addition to her husband of 67 years, Sue is survived by one son, James W. Hines (Amye) and one daughter, Carol H. Mason (Clark) along with grandchildren, Jesse Hines (Melissa), Jenny, John and Jessica Mason, Grace Cunningham, William Palmer and Chesley Nash (Katie). Several great grandchildren as well as several nieces and nephews, and two son-in-laws, Harvey Rankin (Lynn) and Kirby Nash survive. Mrs. Hines was preceded in death by two daughters, Judy Rankin and Cindy Nash and a granddaughter, Heather Hines. Funeral services will be conducted 4:00 p.m. Saturday, June 21, 2014 at Pressly Memorial ARP Church with Dr. Stephen Myers officiating. The family will receive friends following the service in the Church Fellowship Hall.
