Sr. Walter Lederer

March 28, 1925 — February 27, 2013

Walter Eugene Lederer Sr., 87, passed away on Wednesday February 27, 2013, at Maple Leaf Health Care Center. Walter was born March 28, 1925 in Kornwestheim, Germany to the late Charles A. and Martha Franck Lederer. He attended schools in New York but was a member of the last class to graduate from D. Matt Thompson High School in Statesville. He served his country proudly as a member of the Army during WWII. His skills as an interpreter greatly helped the cause. On March 21, 1946, he married Kathleen Miller who survives. He was a long time member of St. John's Lutheran Church and retired from Fiber Industries where he worked in shipping and receiving. After his retirement, he kept busy by working at the Statesville Auto Auction and the Balloon Works. Mr. Lederer is survived by two daughters, Karen L. Miller of Statesville and Rhonda Susan Lederer of Tucker, Georgia; and two sons, Walter Eugene Lederer, Jr. (Carolyn) of Mooresville and David Carl Lederer (Gayle) of Statesville. He further survived by a grandson, David Todd Lederer(Sonya); and two great grandchildren, Carson Lederer and Samantha Lederer. Funeral services for Mr. Lederer will be conducted at 2:00pm, Friday, March 1, 2013 at the Nicholson Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will follow at Oakwood Cemetery. The family will visit with friends from 1:00 to 2:00pm prior to the service. In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to St. John's Lutheran Church, P.O. Box 940, Statesville, N.C. 28687.
