Sr. Bob Haithcox

Mr. Robert "Bob" Glenn Haithcox, Sr., of Statesville, died Sunday, August 14, 2011 at NC Baptist Hospital. Mr. Haithcox was born on Sept. 2, 1929 in Iredell County and was educated in Iredell County Schools, as well as by life. He was an honorably discharged veteran of the U.S. Army, having served in Korea in 1952-53. He was married in May 1951 to Marlene Jean Haithcox, who survives. He was employed for many years as a truck driver, working most of that time for United Merchants and Manufacturers, Inc. He loved the trucking life, and had friends everywhere; but after more than 40 years, he retired in the early 90's to pursue gardening and his career as "Mayor" He was also known informally by many around town at stores, medical offices, car dealers or any place else he frequented. Bob never met a stranger. In addition to his wife, Mr. Haithcox is survived by a daughter, Pamela Stone of Mooresville and a son and daughter-in-law, Jr. and Heidi Haithcox of Monroe. He was "Peepaw" to a granddaughter, Mary Williams of Monroe, and a great grandfather of two. Originally from a family of 12 children, he is now survived only by his sisters, Marg Neely of Statesville, Polly Burdette and Kenneth of Statesville and a brother James Haithcox of Stony Point. He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews in the area and beyond. Funeral services will be conducted 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, August 17, 2011 in the Nicholson Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will follow in the Iredell Memorial Gardens Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Tuesday from 6:30-8:00 p.m. at Nicholson Funeral Home.
