Shirley Kathryn Sledd

February 14, 1927 — March 20, 2016

Mrs. Shirley Kathryn Bennett Sledd, 89, of Mooresville, passed away Sunday, March 20, 2016, at Autumn Care in Statesville. Mrs. Sledd was born in Waycross, GA on February 14, 1927, and was the daughter of the late Brantley and Ethel Bennett. After an absence from school, she was proud to graduate high school alongside her son Larry in 1962 and in June of 1944, she married Van M. Sledd, who preceded her in death on December 1, 2008. She was a member of First Baptist Church in Mooresville where she was a member of the Kingdom Seekers Sunday school class and was self-employed as a beautician. Mrs. Sledd was a wonderful wife, mother, and grandmother and could be considered as, by anyone who ate her food, a great cook. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by a son, Larry Don Sledd, a daughter-in-law, Tina Sledd, and a brother, Billy Bennett. Left to cherish her memory is a daughter, Debi Summerville (Joe), three grandsons, Zack, Max, and Dex (Katie) Summerville, and a great granddaughter, Kayden Summerville, all of Mooresville. She is also survived by a sister, Carolyn B. Murray (John) of AZ and a host of in-laws, nieces, and nephews. Funeral services to honor the life of Shirley Sledd will be conducted 11:00 am Wednesday, March 23, 2016, at First Baptist Church in Mooresville with Rev. Dr. Jerry Cloninger and Rev. Steve Sellers officiating. The family will visit with friends from 10:00 until 11:00 am at the church. Burial will follow in the Glenwood Memorial Park. Online condolences can be made to the family at www.nicholsonfunerals.com and Nicholson Funeral Home is serving the family of Shirley Sledd.
