Sherrill Jean Groce Shore

Sherrill Jean Groce Shore, 86, of Statesville, passed away peacefully at her home surrounded by her loving family on January 6, 2023. She was born in Surry County on March 17, 1936 to the late Henry Hughes " Tuck' Groce and Merlie Naomi Bryant Groce.

Sherrill graduated from Jonesville High School in 1954 and worked at Chatham Manufacturing Company in Elkin in the accounting department for 40 years until her retirement to keep her beloved granddaughters.

She is also preceded in death by her late husband , James Allen Shore, who passed away on March 14, 2019. They were united in marriage on November 8, 1958 and enjoyed 60 years together before his death.

Sherrill was a member of Union Baptist Church for50 years where she served as an organist, Secretary/Treasurer and a Sunday School teacher. She enjoyed cooking, gardening, canning, sewing, crossword puzzles and spending time with her granddaughters and great-granddaughters. She was a wonderful Christian wife, mother, and the best MiMi ever not only to her granddaughters but to their friends as well.

She is survived by a loving son, Mark Allen (Jamie) Shore, of Statesville, three granddaughters; Megan Lynn ( Patrick ) Price, of Morganton, Lindsay Marie Shore ( Mikey) of Jonesville and Mackenzie Ann Shore , of Statesville; three great granddaughters; Blakely Cora Price and Wren Gracelynn Price of Morganton and Ava Layne Woods , of Jonesville; one great grandson due in February 2023.

Special thanks to Dr. John Nicholson and staff , Hospice of Iredell County, and caregivers and close friends, Helen Bowes and Sara Swicegood.

The family will receive friends at the home of Mrs. Shore this week. Funeral services for Mrs. Shore will be held on Sunday , January 15, 2023 at Union Chapel Baptist Church with Rev. Robin Miller, Rev. William Wease and Rev. Talmadge Hollar officiating. Visitation will begin at 2:00pm with services beginning at 3:00 pm and burial will follow in the church cemetery.
