Shelva Jean Cain Williams Gordon, 77, of Statesville, left us peacefully on November 21, 2014 at the Gordon Hospice House. Shelva was born April 26, 1937 in Iredell County to the late James Otis Cain and Susan Viola (Vallie) Cain. She graduated from Statesville Senior High School in 1955. In Nov 1959, she married Henry Ray Williams, who preceded her in death in 1986. In Dec 1988, Shelva married Henry M Gordon, who also preceded her in death in 2010. Shelva was a homemaker and a member of First Baptist Church of Statesville. Shelva enjoyed attending the Class of 1955 breakfast reunions. She was active in the Iredell County Senior Democrats and served as past president. While married to Ray, she lived in a number of states and in Canada where she formed life-long friendships with many of the people she met. After Ray's death and her return to Statesville, Shelva created a Welcome Neighbor service to help newcomers to the Statesville area become better acclimated to their new city. Shelva is also preceded in death by sisters: Evelyn C. Reavis of Charlotte, Brownie C. Cowan, Audrey C. Potts, and Clydia C. Holcombe of Statesville, and niece: Beverly Potts Holbrooke of Statesville. Left to cherish her memory are her children: Ray and Jennifer Williams of Taylors, SC, Teresa and Chris Whiting of Greensboro, and Karen and Brian Parks of Statesville; Her grandchildren: Nathan and Shelley Williams of Greenville, SC, Bennett, Robert and Collin Whiting of Greensboro, and Seth and Luke Parks of Statesville, A sister: Jimmie Sue Parks of Wilson, NC, numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces and nephews, and great-great nieces and nephews. Step-daughters: Claire Gordon and Patricia Gordon and step-grandson Tony Gordon of Riverside, CA The family would like to offer special a thank you to the Nurses and CNAs at Autumn Care, Iredell Memorial Hospital and the Gordon Hospice House. We are grateful for the care and compassion that was shown to Shelva over the past 3 years. Funeral services for Shelva Gordon will be conducted 3:00 PM Monday, November 24, 2014, at First Baptist Church with Dr. Jack Causey officiating. Burial will follow in Oakwood Cemetery. The family will visit with friends Sunday evening from 6:00 until 8:30 PM at Nicholson Funeral Home.
