Shelba Jean Wooten

Shelba Jean Mason Wooten, 79, of Harmony, passed away Tuesday, January 17, 2017 at Brookdale-East Broad. She was born in Alexander County on September 26, 1937 to the late Remus Howard Mason and Maggie Miller Mason. Mrs. Wooten was a graduate of Hiddenite High School and was married in 1960 to Jack Harbin Wooten, who preceded her in death in 2012. They shared over 52 years of marriage before his passing. She was retired from Iredell Memorial Hospital where she worked as a medical advocate. Mrs. Wooten was a member of Harmony United Methodist Church where she had served as church treasurer, choir member, and United Methodist Women. She was a loving mother and grandmother who loved to host family and friends. Along with her parents and husband, Jack, she was preceded in death by a brother, Dennis Mason. Left to cherish her memory are two sons, Kent Wooten (Pam) and Kelvin Wooten (Wendy); four grandchildren, Paige, Tyler, Ryan, and Samantha Wooten; a sister-in-law, Margaret Mason; and a niece, Jennifer Russell. Funeral services will be held 3:30 pm Saturday, January 21, 2017 at Harmony United Methodist Church with Rev. Bruce Handy and Rev. Henry Cook officiating. Burial will follow in the Macedonia United Methodist Church Cemetery. The family will visit with friends at Harmony UMC prior to the service from 2:00 until 3:30 pm. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Hospice and Palliative Care of Iredell, 2347 Simonton Road, Statesville, NC 28625 or to ALS Foundation, 1275 K Street NW, Suite 250, Washington, DC 20005.
