Sarah Rebeccah Carr

Sarah Rebeccah Boshears Carr passed away on August 31, 2017. A native of Telford, TN, Mrs. Carr was born June 17, 1941 the daughter of the late David Isaac (D.I.) and Elizabeth Hartman Boshears. She is survived by her daughter Jadon Carr Bernhardt and Jason Wallace, son Tyson Guy Carr and wife Gina Deggs Carr, grandchildren Annabella Bernhardt, Samuel and Luke Carr all of Hickory, NC; brothers David and wife Patricia Boshears of Johnson City, TN, Mark and wife Betty Joy Boshears of Kingsport, TN, several aunts, nieces, nephews, and a special cousin, Jane Hartman Crawford of Johnson City. She was a graduate of East Tennessee University in Johnson City, TN where she majored in English and was a member of Kappa Delta Sorority. Mrs. Carr taught middle-school language arts in both Bristol, TN and Statesville, NC where she was especially devoted to the special-needs children in her care. With a heart of service, she actively worked in Statesville with Yokefellow Ministries, March of Dimes, Special Olympics, Meals on Wheels, and the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation. As a member of Rose Chapel United Methodist Church, Mrs. Carr taught Sunday School, led the youth group for several years, sang in the choir, and was honored by the United Methodist Women of the church for her involvement in both local and foreign mission projects and her leadership in the church. She was a member of the Cursillo Community where she served on numerous teams, leaving a legacy of service and caring of others. Her faith and love of God was contagious! It impacted her family and touched all who knew her. Mrs. Carr, a resident of Statesville for over thirty-five years, relocated to Hickory in 2010 where she attended Hickory Harvest Church and Sunday night services at Pinecrest, led by Rev. and Mrs. James Hefner. Blessed with a quick wit and a bright, easy smile, Mrs. Carr was loved by all those who had the good fortune to have her in their lives. Always the life of any occasion and always armed with long tales of humor and laughter, she often found herself the center of conversation. She was a friend to all and never met a stranger. For over twenty-five years, she also looked forward annually to visiting with her long-time girlfriends, the YaYa's. She loved family time, cooking wonderful meals, watching movies and sports, playing cards and board games, and a winter fire in the fireplace. She enjoyed Bible study groups, traveling, good books and reading to her grandchildren. Some of our fondest memories through the years are watching basketball and football games together, especially the Tennessee Vols or NC State Wolfpack. She could tell you the family history of any coach she was watching at the time. Her favorite places were ocean beaches and week-end trips to her mountain cabin surrounded by her family and friends. Sarah adored her children and grandchildren, and she loved being known as CiCi for the past 11 years. One of the last books she read was The Power of a Praying Grandparent. She spent some of her last months investing in her grandchildren's lives by praying for each of them daily. A memorial service and celebration of life is planned for Saturday, September 16th at 2;00pm. It will be held at Rose Chapel United Methodist Church in Statesville.
