Sanford Edward Hedrick

Mr. Sanford Edward Hedrick, Sr. 88, of Harmony, passed away on Saturday, October 1, 2016, following complications from an extended illness. Mr. Hedrick was born in Yadkin County on December 3, 1927, and was the son of the late William Ralph Hedrick and Anna Myrtle Gentle Hedrick. He attended Yadkin County schools and served in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean War. On June 10, 1953, he married Mary Ann Marshall Hedrick, who survives. Mr. Hedrick retired with Stimpson Hosiery and was a member of Mt. Bethel United Methodist Church. He was a member of American Legion Post 113 of Harmony. Sanford loved being outdoors. He especially loved gardening while his health permitted. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by four brothers, Paul, J.D., Waldo, and Leroy Hedrick and two sisters, Louise H. Ladd and Veanna Laws along with a daughter-in-law, Beverly Hedrick. Left to cherish his memory is his wife of 63 years, Mary Ann Hedrick; a son, Ed Hedrick of Harmony; two daughters, Sandra Shaver of Hamptonville and Marcia Rousseau (Gary) of Lady Lake, FL. He is also survived by four grandchildren, Travis Hedrick (Lauren) of Statesville, Tanner Hedrick of Chapel Hill, NC, Amber Shaver McCormack (Patrick) of Statesville and Michelle Shaver of Statesville along with a greatgrandchild, Amaya Gill of Statesville. He is further survived by a number of in-laws, nieces, and nephews. Funeral services honoring the life of Sanford Hedrick will be conducted at 2:00 PM Tuesday, October 4, 2016, at Mt. Bethel UMC with Rev. Lynne Lepley officiating. The family will visit with friends starting at 1:00 pm until the funeral service. Burial with full military honors provided by the North Iredell American Legion Post #113 will follow in the church cemetery. Active pallbearers will be Ed, Travis, and Tanner Hedrick, Gary and Billy Marshall, and Gary Rousseau. Memorials may be made to Mt. Bethel UMC Harmony, NC or to Hospice and Palliative Care of Iredell County, 2347 Simonton Road, Statesville, NC 28625.
