Sam E Grady

April 22, 1960 — January 19, 2016

Samuel E. Grady, 55, of Statesville, died in a tragic incident Tuesday, Jan. 19, 2016.

He was born April 22, 1960, to Carl Dewey Grady and Katherine Wilson Grady. He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, David Carl Grady.

He is survived by his brother, William Grady, of Statesville.

Sam was a graduate of Statesville High School, Mitchell Community College and UNC Charlotte. He loved music and played in the marching band in high school, and was a lover of nature and cats. Sam was a very bright person, enjoying science, history and math, and was kind and respectful to people he met. He enjoyed walking and worked for many years at Harris Teeter and Food Lion.

Sam was a lifelong member of Forest Park Presbyterian Church and served as a deacon. In his service to the church Sam was faithful, thoughtful and conscientious.

In his life Sam faced many challenges and difficulties as best as he knew how. In addition to his own personal struggles, he lost a young brother at age 10 to cancer and then had to care for his mentally disabled brother after his parents died.

We give thanks to God for Sam's life and are grateful that in life and in death we belong not to ourselves, but to our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. Sam is now with God in His Eternal Kingdom. "Weeping may endure for the night but joy cometh in the morning." - Psalm 30:5

A memorial service honoring Sam's life will be held on Friday, January 29 at Forest Park Presbyterian Church. The family will receive visitors at 10 am and the service will begin at 11 am at the church.

Online condolences can be made to the family at www.nicholsonfunerals.com and Nicholson Funeral Home is serving the family of Sam Grady.
