Sadie Julia Hansel

Sadie Julia Link Hansel, 78, of Olin, died Monday, November 5, 2018 at the Gordon Hospice House.



Mrs. Hansel was born in Iredell County on June 21, 1940 and was the daughter of the late John McLain Link and Bertha Speaks Link. She was a graduate of Union Grove School and on December 19, 1959 she married Kenneth M. Hansel, Sr. and together they shared 58 years of marriage until his death on January 29, 2018.



Mrs. Hansel was a member of Union Grove United Methodist Church and was a member of the Young Adult Sunday School Class where she served as Sunday school treasurer.



Mrs. Hansel enjoyed being outdoors. She loved gardening and cooking her home-grown vegetables. Her great-granddaughter loved her homemade squash casserole. She also loved her time spent at Howard's Strawberries where she met and made new life-long friends. In her early years following school, she coached basketball for the Union Grove School 7th and 8th grade girls. She also served as a girl scout leader. Mrs. Hansel will be truly missed by all who knew her.



In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by three brothers, John, Vance, and Raymond Link and one sister, Eveleen Campbell.



Left to cherish her memory are two children, Ken Hansel (Robin) and Rene' Jones, both of Olin, two grandchildren, Mari-Katherine Nowlin (Danny) of Olin and John Ray Webber (Brittney) of Wilmington, and two great-grandchildren, Mya Hernandez and Zaccary Nowlin, both of Olin. She is also survived by a brother, Rev. Perry Link (Hilda Sue) of Stony Point, one sister, Carolyn Price (Jim) and a sister-in-law Sylvia Link, all of Charlotte.



Funeral services honoring the life of Sadie Hansel will be conducted at 2:00 PM Friday, November 9 at Union Grove United Methodist Church with Rev. S. Neill Shaw officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will visit with friends for one hour prior to the funeral service. The Young Adult Sunday School Class will serve as honorary pallbearers.
