Mrs. Ruth Bustle Sherrill, 85, of Statesville, passed away Monday, February 27, 2012 at Iredell Memorial Hospital. Born July 10, 1926 in Iredell County, she was the daughter of the late Wardie Lee Sharpe Bustle. She attended Statesville City Schools and was married to the late Charles Henry Sherrill, who died in August of 1978. Ruth was a former member of Race Street United Methodist Church and was a reporter for the Charlotte Observer in the Statesville area and was also the first female reporter for news for WBTV Channel 3 in Charlotte. She enjoyed bingo, special T.V. programs, listening to the Law Enforcement Scanner, Chinese food and fried oysters. Ruth also loved her grandchildren and great grandchildren. Left to cherish her memory is a son, Charles Henry "Pete" Sherrill, Jr. and wife Brenda of Hiddenite, a daughter, Selma Ruth Sherrill Ball and husband, James of Statesville, four grandchildren, Kristen Lynette Sherrill of Hiddenite, Kimberly Denise Sherrill Parker (Eddie) of Hiddenite, James Martin Ball, III (Iva) of Cleveland, NC and Jamie Ball Stilgenbaur (Rev. Stacy Stilgenbaur) of Memphis, TN. Five great grandchildren, Thomas Lee Sherrill, Annie Marie Parker, James Martin Ball, IV, Elizabeth Ruth Ball and Carson John Stilgenbaur, also survive. A service to celebrate the life of Ruth Bustle Sherrill will be conducted 3:00 p.m. Thursday, March 1, 2012, in the Nicholson Funeral Home Chapel. Rev. Dr. Gary Revels and Rev. Bob Harris will officiate and burial will follow in the Oakwood Cemetery. The family will visit with friends on Thursday from 2:00-3:00 p.m. at Nicholson Funeral Home.
