Ruth Drum

April 30, 1925 — December 29, 2016

Mrs. Ruth Williams Drum, 91, of Morganton and formerly of Statesville, died Thursday, December 29, 2016, at her daughters' home. Mrs. Drum was born in Cabarrus County on April 30, 1925, and was the daughter of the late Noble Oscar and Bessie Lippard Williams. She was a graduate of Statesville High School and on February 10, 1943, she married Wade Franklin Drum who preceded her in death on September 9, 1996. She formerly worked for Drum Supermarket and retired from Iredell Statesville Schools where she worked as a dietician. Mrs. Drum was a member of Glen Alpine United Methodist Church and former member of Race Street UMC and Western Avenue Baptist Church. She was a kind and loving woman who never met a stranger. She had a love for the outdoors and especially going to the beach with her family. Her dedication to her faith in God is what led her to visit the shut-in and those in the hospital and making sure her friends that didn't have a ride could get to church. For family and friends alike, she will be missed dearly. In addition to parents and husband, she was preceded in death by four brothers, Grover, Charles, Harold and his wife Laura, Dewey and his wife Nancy and a brother-in-law, Fletcher Drum and his wife Lois. Left to cherish her memory is her daughter, Pam Harris (Rick) of Morganton, two granddaughters, Melanie Harris McDonald (Bryan) of Statesville and Julie Harris Lail (Adam) of Morganton along with four great-grandchildren, Spencer Lail and Landon, Lily, and Violet McDonald. She is also survived by a sister, Violet "Polly" Parker of Oxford, FL and sister-in-law Doris Williams of Statesville. Funeral services for Ruth Drum will be conducted 3:00 PM Sunday, January 1, 2017, in the Nicholson Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Barbara Mayo officiating. Burial will follow in the Oakwood Cemetery. The family will visit with friends from 1:00 until 3:00 PM at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Glen Alpine UMC, PO Box 576, Glen Alpine, NC 28628 or to the Burke Hospice and Palliative Care, 1721 Enon Road, Valdese, NC 28690.
