Roy Jim Mayhew

Mr. Roy Jim (June) Mayhew, Jr., 86, of Statesville, died Wednesday, August 19, 2015 at Iredell Memorial Hospital. Born in Rowan County on December 29, 1928, he was a son of the late Roy Jim Mayhew, Sr. and Pearl Cashion Mayhew. He was a member of Covenant ARP Church and enjoyed gardening and animals. He served in the U. S. Navy during World War II and retired from Duke Energy after 31 years of service. He was preceded in death by brothers: Dave, Dick and Clarence Mayhew and sisters: Edna Lipe, Mary Lou Dean, Margaret Oliphant and Mildred Stewart. Survivors include his wife, the former Dorothy Graham, a son, Michael (Mike) Mayhew (Jane) of Huntersville, a daughter, Debbie Oliver (Marty) of Mint Hill, granddaughters: Lindsay Oliver, Lauren Hartis (Steven) and Kristen Spain (Jeremy), along with one great granddaughter, Layla Oliver Spain. Also surviving are special nephews, Joe Dean (Louise) and Clyde Lipe and a special niece, Linda Lefever (Dink). Services celebrating Mr. Mayhew's life will be conducted at 2:00 P.M. Saturday at Covenant A.R.P. Church with Rev. Jeff Jacobs and Dr. Robert Brawley officiating. He will lie in state at the church for thirty minutes prior to the service and burial will follow in the Cleveland Town Cemetery with Full Military Rites presented by the Iredell County Veterans Council Burial Detail. The family will receive friends from 7:00 until 9:00 P.M. Friday evening at Nicholson Funeral Home. Condolences may be sent online to the family to www.nicholsonfunerals.com. Memorials are requested in lieu of flowers to be given to Covenant A.R.P. Church, 120 N. Greenbriar Rd. Statesville, N.C. 28625. Nicholson Funeral Home is entrusted with the arrangements.
