Roy Campbell, Jr.

June 19, 1935 — September 23, 2015

Roy Campbell, Jr., former resident of Lake Norman, NC, died unexpectedly on September 23, 2015. Roy, affectionately known as RC, was born on June 19, 1935 in Chattanooga, TN to Mary Mills Ham and Roy Campbell. He was educated in the Charlotte City School system and graduated from Myers Park High School in 1953. Roy attended The Citadel and the U.S. Naval Academy where he was a member of the golf team. He graduated with a degree in English from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill where he was a member of the Sigma Chi fraternity. RC enjoyed a life-long and successful career as an independent sales representative in the furniture industry, where he was held in the highest regard. Everyone who knew or crossed paths with RC would attest to the idea that "the soul is contained in the human voice." RC always recognized the positive in everyone, supporting and encouraging them in their challenges and victories, big or small. His gift for engaging people with stories of his own life experiences not only revealed his zest for life but his keen discernment of the real purpose of life. Those who heard his voice and messages were truly blessed, as they gained a glimpse into his mighty and loving soul. Faith and family were paramount to RC and fueled his determination to embrace life fully, especially while fighting a most courageous battle with cancer. He was guided by his desire to make the world a better place for his grandchildren. His passion for golf and politics and his adoration for his family and friends will be heartbreakingly missed but forever his signature. He was preceded in death by his parents and his first wife Mary Hill Moffitt. He is survived by his wife of thirty-six years, Frances Gilliam Campbell, his three daughters - Catherine Campbell von Storch and husband Stephen of Charlottesville, VA, Elizabeth Campbell Walker and husband David of Greenwich, CT, and Anne Campbell Brooks and husband Thurman of Charlotte, NC, and his eight grandchildren - Henry, Ellie and Joe von Storch, Annie, Catherine and Sarah Walker, and Mary Hill and Thurman Brooks.
