Roy C. Thomas

Roy C. Thomas, age 89, went to be with his Lord peacefully on Thursday, January 18, 2018 in his home in Jupiter, FL. He was born on March 8, 1928 in Statesville, NC to the late Brodie Franklin Thomas and Julia Lackey Thomas. He was the youngest of four children. Immediately after graduating from Statesville High School, he joined the Air Force in 1946. On October 14, 1956, he married his beloved wife of 61 years, Doris Zolene Cates Thomas. He served as a governmental aeronautical engineer for 43 years after receiving his Bachelor of Science in Aerospace Engineering from North Carolina State. Roy was preceded in death by his parents, brothers and sister, and his son Steven Wesley Thomas. Roy will be remembered as an admirable husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather. He is survived by his wife Doris, children Alice Elaine Thomas Thompson and Kevin Wayne Thomas, grandchildren Steven Charles Wise Thomas, Melissa Anne Williams (Henry F Williams Jr.), and Brianna Elizabeth Thompson, and great-grandchildren Chastidy Lynn Williams and Jasmine Kay Williams. The funeral service will be held on Friday, January 26, 2018 at 2:30pm at Mt Hermon Lutheran Church, Statesville, NC. Burial to follow. The family will greet family and friends from 12:00pm to 2:00pm on January 26, 2018 at Nicholson Funeral Home, Statesville, NC. God saw you were getting tired, and a cure was not to be, so he put his arms around you, and whispered, "Come to Me." With tearful eyes we watched you, and saw you pass away. Although we loved you dearly, we could not make you stay. A golden heart stopped beating, hardworking hands at rest. God broke our hearts to prove us, he only takes the best.
