Roger Lee Pennell

Roger Lee Pennell, 72, of Harmony died Tuesday, August 10, 2021.

He was born in Iredell County on May 8, 1949, to the late William Pennell and Tressie Teague Pennell. He was also preceded in death by a brother, Billy Pennell.

Roger was a supervisor at Armstrong Flooring and served his country in the US Army. For over 26 years he enjoyed coaching football, basketball, other sports at Harmony Elementary School. He loved all the children he had the opportunity to coach and even used his carpet van so he could pick them up and take them home from practice. Roger had also coached football at NB Mills prior to going to Harmony. More than anything else in the world, he loved spoiling his grandchildren and was a wonderful husband, father, and grandfather.

Those left to cherish his memory are his wife of 50 years, Tyra Hatcher Pennell, a son, Cory Pennell (Leah), a daughter, Carla Williams, five grandchildren, Kayla Oldenkamp, Tyler Wooten, Addison Pennell, Travis Church, Tate Pennell, and two great-grand-children, Wells Lee Oldenkamp and Wally Drew Oldenkamp and a brother, Danny Pennell(Carolyn) and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral Services will be held Saturday, August 14, 2021, at 11:00 am at the Nicholson Funeral Home Chapel with Mike Barnette officiating. The family will visit with friends from 9:00 to 10:45 am prior to the service. Burial will follow at Friendship Baptist Church Cemetery in Harmony with full military rites. The service will be live streamed and will begin promptly at 11:00 am.
