Robert Russell Mercer

"Robert "Bob" Russell Mercer, passed away on April 2, 2018. Son of Dudley Maxwell Mercer and Bernetta Della Russell, Bob was born in Detroit, Michigan on August 19, 1937. He married the love of his life, Nancy Jean Warner, on June 6, 1959. Graduating from Lawrence Technical University, Bob was a mechanical engineer with several patents in his name. He retired from General Motors. He was a beloved husband, father and grandfather who adored his family and spent his retired years traveling from Michigan to North Carolina to Florida and back again, enjoying time with his children and grandchildren. As a licensed builder and skilled handyman, Bob was a man who could fix or build anything. He was also an avid reader and talented researcher, who studied and cataloged the many translations of the Bible and went on to write a book about them. A lifelong Christian, Bob was a member of Northview Church of Christ. Bob is survived by his wife of fifty-nine years, Nancy Mercer; his three children Bonnie Smereka, Kathleen Vogel (Mark) and Daniel Mercer (Susan); his twelve grandchildren, Anthony (Amye), Christopher (Lynne), Kelly (Adam), Amy, Jonathan (Kaci), Hannah (Jason), Katelyn, Evan, Russell, Chad, Mitchell and Gregory; and two great grandchildren Abbegail and Alexis. Funeral Services will be held on Saturday, April 7, at 11:00 AM at Northview Church of Christ, 2615 Amity Hill Rd, Statesville, NC 28677."
