Robert "Ponytail Bob" Hunter Lawrence

Robert Hunter Lawrence, 63, of Statesville, passed away, Monday, June 20, 2016 at Iredell Memorial Hospital. Bob was born on June 27, 1952 in Pomona, CA to the late Frank Woodrow Lawrence and Mary Rabito Lawrence. He was a graduate of Charter Oak High School, 1970, Covina, CA. and was a man of many traits; including playing music, singing karaoke, computer repairs, car mechanic, and excellent cook and loved to barbecue throughout the year. Bob was an avid gardner and enjoyed canning. He loved sharing his harvest with friends. Although not being able to serve our country, Bob was a veteran advocate. He devoted his time in supplying music/ entertainment for the many patriotic ceremonies, veteran groups and benefits. Ponytail Bob went out of his way to share his talent at various nursing/ assisted living homes, special events, promoting children's/ young adult's karaoke and supported local bands. Bob never wanted recognition, just wanted enjoyment for others. He volunteered his time and music for benefits for other people in need. He loved and was loved in return by his many friends, will be missed by many friends and associates. He shared his love and life with his lifetime companion of 35 years, Dorothea Haase. In addition to Dorothea, he is survived by two sisters, Ginger Wallenbrock of San Dimas, CA and Eileen Nordstrom of Post Falls, Idaho along with 15 nieces and nephews and 22 great nieces and nephews. A gathering of friends will be held Saturday, June 25, 2016 at Nicholson Funeral Home from 3:00-6:00 p.m. He will lie in state from 3:00-6:00 p.m. Saturday at Nicholson Funeral Home Nicholson Funeral Home is serving the family of Ponytail Bob.
