Robert Nesbit

Mr. Robert William Nesbit, 77, of Statesville, passed away Wednesday, December 18, 2013, at Iredell Memorial Hospital. Mr. Nesbit was born June 16, 1936 in Iredell County and he was the son of the late Luther Nesbit and Lula Mae Philips Nesbit. He attended Iredell County schools and on June 15, 1963, he married Dorothy Swicegood Nesbit, who survives. Mr. Nesbit was a veteran of the U.S. Navy and he also served in the Merchant Marines. He was a man who loved people, his family, and his church. He was a member at Front Street Baptist Church and as long as his health would allow, could be found on Sunday mornings making coffee for whoever wanted it and also holding the door for fellow church members. He could be known as a jokester; one who got a kick out of making people laugh at his expense. He will be missed by all who knew him. In addition to his parents, Mr. Nesbit was preceded in death by one daughter, Denise Darlene Nesbit along with one sister, Illa Estelle Nesbit and a brother, Wade Nesbit. Along with his wife of 50 years, Dorothy S. Nesbit, he is survived by one son, Tommy Nesbit (April) and two daughters, Renee Nesbit and Tami Nesbit (Mike Parker), all of Statesville. He is also survived by six grandchildren, Brittany Goforth (Parley), Blaine Nesbit, Beth Nesbit, Joshua Goodman, Matthew Greenlee, and Angela Greenlee Henderson. One sister, Elizabeth Nesbit Payne and nine great-grandchildren also survive. A funeral service for Mr. Nesbit will be held 2:00 pm Saturday, December 21, 2013, at Front Street Baptist Church with Rev. Tim Stutts and Scott Mitcham officiating. Burial with full military honors will follow in the Oakwood Cemetery. The family will visit with friends Friday evening from 6:00 until 8:00 pm at Nicholson Funeral Home.
