Robert Lee Harmon Jr.

Robert Lee Harmon, Jr. 84, of Statesville died Friday, November 11, 2022, at his home.

He was born in Avery County, NC on September 27, 1938, to the late Robert Lee Harmon and Elsie Forbs Harmon. He was also preceded in death by his wife of almost 60 years, Shirley Snell Harmon in 2020.

Robert served his country in the US Navy. He retired as a truck driver after 37 years. Robert was a people person and never met a stranger. He loved going out to eat at his favorite local restaurants. He belonged to the Sunshine's Breakfast Club, and he loved his gravy! He also enjoyed visiting his family in Linville and was a member of Lodge 10 FOP.

Those left to cherish his memory include a son, Gary Lee Harmon, two daughters, Sandra Anne Crawford and Debbie Lynne Tibbetts (Tracy), three grandchildren, Michael Lawson (Regina), Melanie Crawford, Ashley Crawford and his "lady friend" Barbara Martin.

Services will be held later in Avery County.

I MADE IT HOME

I just wanted to let you know I made it home.

Everything is so pretty here, so fresh, so new. I wish that you could close your eyes so you could see it too.

Please try not to be sad for me. Try to understand. God is taking care of me...I'm in the shelter of His hands.

Here there is no sadness, and no sorrow, and no pain. Here there is no crying, and I'll never hurt again.

Here it is so peaceful, when all the angels sing. I really have to go now....I've just got to try my wings.
