Robert Hewitt Clontz

Robert Hewitt (Hugh) Clontz, 82, of Troutman, passed away Monday, August 13, 2018 at Wake Forest Baptist Hospital. A native of Iredell County he was born December 8, 1935 to the late Kay Lee Clontz Johnson and was raised by his maternal grandparents Wade H. and Cora Maness Clontz.



A 1953 graduate of Troutman High School, he attended Auto Diesel School in Nashville, TN. In 1958, he was drafted into the Army, where he served as drill sergeant and later retired in 1994 from the U.S. Army 108th Division Reserves as a Command Sergeant Major.



He worked at Troutman Industries until it closed and was still working at Badger Sportswear. On August 16, 1957, he married the former Lillian Virginia Talbert, who survives.



Also surviving are one daughter, Renee C. Harkey (Fred) and one son, Robert Eric Clontz (Christine) both of Troutman; three granddaughters, Cynthia C. Lacoille (Erin), Shannon C. Toohey (Ben) both of Troutman, Katie H. Dishman (Tyler) of Mooresville; five great grandchildren, Connor Lacoille, Morgan Lacoille, Kaylee Toohey all of Troutman, Adalynn Rife and Lucas Dishman of Mooresville. A special young man and lady who called him "Papaw" Gavin and Ella Morrison. He is also survived by one sister, Nancy J. Morrison and special uncle, Clinton Clontz.



Funeral services will be held 4:00 p.m. Friday, August 17, 2018 at Rocky Mount United Methodist Church with Rev. Georgianne Hartline officiating. The family will visit with friends on Friday from 2:30-3:45 at the church prior to the service. Burial with full military honors will follow in the church cemetery. Active pallbearers will be Chris Morrison, Jason Morrison, Gavin Morrison, Jamie Clontz, Dwight Clontz, and A. J. Berry.
