Robert Fulbright

August 21, 1931 — September 2, 2011

Mr. Robert Carroll Fulbright, 80, of Old Mountain Road, Statesville, passed away Friday, September, 2, 2011, at the Gordon Hospice House following a short illness. Born August 21, 1931 in Iredell County he was the son of the late Noel Baxter Fulbright and Euphia Sherrill Fulbright. He attended Scotts School and was a veteran of the U.S. Army serving in the Korean War. On July 11, 1959 he was married to Helen Bowles Fulbright who survives. Robert was a retired self employed finish carpenter and had finished many homes in Iredell County and surrounding counties. He was a member of New Sterling Associated Reformed Presbyterian Church and enjoyed talking, bunting, fishing, listening to blue grass music and most of all loved his grandson, Garrett. He was a member of VFW Post 2031 in Statesville. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by five sisters, and four brothers; Lillian F. Stewart, Irene F. Johnson, Mary Evelyn F. Campbell, Helen F. Honeycutt, Barbara Jo F. Reid, David Fulbright, James "Jimmy" Franklin Fulbright, Johnny Fulbright and Harry Fulbright. Survivors include his wife, Helen Bowles Fulbright, one son, Richard Wayne Fulbright, one daughter, Nancy Louise Fulbright and his grandson, Richard Garrett Fulbright, all of Statesville. Two brothers, Melvin Fulbright and Marcus Ray "Buck" Fulbright, both of Statesville; two sisters, Margaret Faye F. "Sissy" Lackey of Statesville, Hilda Sue Fulbright of Maiden, N.C., along with a number of nieces and nephews and his special pet dog "Scooter", also survive. Funeral services will be conducted 4:00 pm Monday, September 5, 2011, at New Sterling A.R.P Church with Rev. Tim Watson and Rev. Dr. Earl Linderman officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery with military honors provided by the Iredell County Military Burial Detail at New Sterling A.R.P. Church. The family will visit with friends on Monday at the church from 3:00 until 4:00 pm. Memorials may be made to New Sterling A.R.P. Church, 580 New Sterling Road, Stony Point, N.C. 28678.
