Robert B. Compton, 81, of Statesville, passed away Friday, November 13, 2015 at Iredell Memorial Hospital. He was born on June 6, 1934 in Iredell County to the late Robert Bentley Compton and Flossie Troutman Compton. Mr. Compton was a graduate of Troutman High School and Mitchell College. He served his country proudly in the U.S. Navy. He was married to Linda Murdock Compton and they had 50 years of marriage before her passing in 2008. Bob was Assistant Terminal Manager for McLean Trucking for over 28 years and later worked for Coldwell Banker as a realtor. He was a member of Holy Trinity Lutheran Church. Along with his parents and wife, Linda, he was preceded in death by brothers, Herbert Troutman and Ike Compton, and sisters, Evelyn Sprinkle and Ada Horton. Left to cherish his memory are a son, David Compton (Michele) and a daughter, Beth Ostwalt (Tony), all of Statesville; a granddaughter, Chelsea Compton; a grandson, Ethan Ostwalt (Tiffany); a great grandson, Tate Ostwalt; his twin brother, Jake Compton; and a sister, Jeanne Compton Funeral services will be held 2:00 PM Monday at Holy Trinity Lutheran Church with Pastor Dieter Punt officiating. Burial will follow in the Troutman Historic Cemetery. The family will visit with friends Sunday evening from 6:00 until 8:00 PM at Nicholson Funeral Home. Memorials may be made to the Troutman Historical Association, 270 Troutman Farm Road, Statesville, NC 28677 or to Holy Trinity Lutheran Church, 225 Morgan Street, Troutman, NC 28166.
