Richard E. Hardaway Iii

March 1, 1955 — May 10, 2015

Richard(Dick) E. Hardaway, III of Statesville and Troutman passed away peacefully May 10, 2015, at Catawba Regional Hospice after a long struggle with kidney failure. After attending Statesville Public Schools, he graduated from Appalachian State University in 1978. He worked in Boone and Statesville for a time and then resided in Troutman until his death. Born March 1, 1955, he was the second son of John S. Hardaway, M.D. and Elizabeth Ann Clinard Hardaway of Statesville. He was preceded in death by his older brother, John S. Hardaway, Jr. and his mother. He is survived by his father, his brother David M. Hardaway, M.D. and his wife, Lena of Hickory and their four children: Hunter Hardaway and his wife, Lindsay of Hickory, his great niece, Laurel Elizabeth Hardaway; Caitlyn E. Hardaway of Savannah, GA; Jordan S. Hardaway and David Madison Hardaway, Jr. of Hickory; his brother, William(Bill) C. Hardaway and his wife Terrill of Charlotte, and their two children: Elizabeth Ann Hardaway(Eliza) and William Pepper Hardaway; his aunt, Barbara Hardaway Bowen of Southern Pines; his three cousins Barbara Hardaway Murray of Houston, TX and Nancy Hardaway Lutz of Baton Rouge, LA, and their husbands and children; and Carey J. Hardaway of Lafayette, LA. There will be a short graveside service on Tuesday afternoon at 2:00P.M. at Oakwood Cemetery in Statesville. Following this, the family will receive friends at Nicholson Funeral Home from 2:30 until 4:00 PM. The family requests that in lieu of flowers or food, please donate to the charity of your choice.
