Reuben "Jr" Johnson

Reuben Washington Johnson, Jr., of Harmony Highway, Hamptonville, passed away on Monday, November 19, 2012. He was born on February 27, 1928, in Iredell County, to the late Reuben Washington Johnson and the late Grace Cash Johnson. He graduated from Harmony High School and was a long-time member of Winthrop Friends Meeting and later New Hope Baptist Church. He was preceded in death by his wife, Willie "Jip" Barnard Johnson. He is survived by a son, Michael Reuben Johnson (Tammy), of Harmony, and a daughter, Lisa Johnson Medford (Dempsey), of Hilton Head Island, S.C.; five grandchildren, Emily Johnson, Jake Johnson, Elizabeth Johnson, Hannah Medford and Paige Medford. Also surviving is a sister, Sarah Johnson and a number of nieces and nephews. Reuben was a veteran of both the US Army and the US Air Force and served during the Korean War. He worked and retired from Southern Fasteners for over 20 years. The remainder of his time was spent farming with his late brothers, Richard and Benjamin Johnson, his son, Mike and grandson, Jake. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at New Hope Baptist Church, Hamptonville, with the Rev. Dr. Bobby Henderson and Rev. Bert Mathis officiating. Burial will follow the service at the church cemetery with full military honors. He will lie in state 30 minutes prior to the service. The family will receive friends after the funeral service at the church fellowship hall. Active pallbearers will be Joe Orren, Jamey Phipps, Justin Phipps, William Baugus, Dillon Baugus, Jonathon Baugus and Jeffrey Baugus. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Mountain Valley Hospice - P.O. Box 1267 Yadkinville, NC 27055. Online condolences may be made to the family at nicholsonfunerals.com.
