R.C. Gatton

Mr. Robert Clay "R.C." Gatton, 71, of Olin, passed away Tuesday, April 15, 2014, at Iredell Memorial Hospital. Mr. Gatton was born in Iredell County on October 24, 1942 and was the son of the late Clay Wood Gatton and Esther Viola Cauthen Gatton. He attended Iredell County Schools and on June 30, 1958, he married Nita Josephine Byrd Gatton, who survives. Mr. Gatton was a member of Hams Grove Baptist Church and he served as a Deacon. He was a former co-owner of the Statesville Meat Center where he retired. R.C. loved his family and was an animal lover, especially his dogs and cats. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one son, Tim Gatton. Along with his wife of 55 years, Nita, he is also survived by one son, Kenny Gatton of Olin, one daughter, Kay G. Billings (Keith) of Harmony. He is also survived by daughter, Destiny Rosado and son Dylan Rosado, both of Olin, along with five grandchildren, Brooke, Heather, Mindy, Dusty, and Chase and nine great-grandchildren. Funeral services for R.C. Gatton will be conducted 2:00 PM Friday, April 18, 2014, at Hams Grove Baptist Church with Rev. James Bumgarner officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Active pallbearers will be Dylan Rosado, Peyton Adams, Michael Isenhour, Justin Morris, Brandon Morris, Kevin Fox, Dusty Gatton, Chase Gatton and honorary pallbearer will be Cody. The family will visit with friends from 1:00 until 2:00 PM at the church.
