Raymond George Raushi

Mr. Raymond George Raushi, 87, of Statesville, died Monday October 9, 2017 at Iredell Memorial Hospital. Born in Lansdowne, Pa. on August 15, 1930, he was a son of the late George Raushi, Jr. and Anna Kmetz. He was preceded in death by his wife, the former Elsa Nystrom on May 30, 2016. Mr. Raushi was a 1948 graduate of Irondequoit High School, a 1952 graduate with an associate degree in forestry from Paul Smiths College and a 1959 graduate with a B.A. from the New York State College of Forestry at Syracuse University . He was a member of Holy Trinity Lutheran Church in Troutman, N.C. Mr. Raushi owned and operated his own greenhouses, Spring Pond Nursery, and in 1977 went to work for the Boy Scouts Of Amereica as a Regional Scout Executive, retiring after 18 years in 1995. He was a veteran and was a member of the American Legion for 41 years. Survivors include a son, Steve Raushi (Sandy) of Canastota, N.Y., a daughter, Elaine Raushi (Peter Mascari) of Troutman, two grandchildren: Trevor and Drew Raushi and brothers, Thaddeus and George Raushi. Services celebrating Mr. Raushi's life will be conducted at 2 :00 P.M. Sunday at Holy Trinity Lutheran Church in Troutman with Pastor Dieter Punt officiating. Military rites will be presented at the church following the service by the American Legion Post # 65 Burial Detail. Condolences may be sent online to the family to www.nicholsonfunerals.com.
