Rayford Branton

Donald Rayford Branton, 78, of Statesville, passed away Sunday, November 8, 2015 at the Gordon Hospice House. He was born on April 25, 1937 in Alexander County to the late William Anderson Branton and Truly Campbell Branton. Mr. Branton attended Statesville City Schools and was married to Nancy Millsaps Branton, who survives. He was a retired barber who had worked at Forest Heights Barber Shop for years. He was also a poultry farmer and was a member of Central Baptist Church in Wilkesboro. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, and horseback riding. Left to cherish his memory are his wife of 40 years, Nancy; three nephews; and one niece. He is further survived by a special niece, Melonie Gurley (Wayne) and a special nephew, Joey Millsaps, both of whom called him Dad. Funeral services for Mr. Branton will be held 2:00 PM Wednesday, November 11, 2015 at the Nicholson Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Ronnie Millsaps and Rev. Brad Pharr officiating. Burial will follow in the New Prospect Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will visit with friends Tuesday evening at Nicholson Funeral Home from 6:00 until 8:00PM.
