Rachel Thorne

Mrs. Rachel Cockrell Thorne, 81, of Statesville, passed away Sunday, September 20, 2015, at Davis Regional Medical Center. She was born July 13, 1934, in Mt. Mourne, NC and was the daughter of the late Mr. & Mrs. Ben Cockrell. She attended Mt. Mourne School and was married for 62 years to Millard Foster Thorne, who survives. She retired from Melville Textiles following 25 years of service. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a son, Mitchell Blake Thorne on April 17, 2007. She is survived by her husband, two grandchildren, Jessica Hester and Michael Thorne, both of Marion, NC. Six great grandchildren and one brother and one sister also survive. A service to celebrate the life of Rachel Thorne will be conducted 2:00 pm Wednesday, September 23, 2015, in the Nicholson Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Tony Smith officiating.
