Rachel Elizabeth Jurney

Rachel Elizabeth Johnson Jurney, 91, of Statesville, passed away peacefully the morning of March 6, 2015 at Iredell Memorial Hospital. She was born in Iredell County on October 7, 1923 to the late Otis Franklin and Isolene Johnson. Mrs. Jurney was educated in Iredell County Schools and was married to Zach Jurney, who preceded her death in 1970. They operated Jurney's Grocery on Hwy 115 in Love Valley from 1958 to about 1968. She later retired from Orbit Industries with over 20 years of service. Rachel was a life-long member of Rocky Hill Baptist Church. Along with her husband and parents, she was also preceded in death by three brothers, Clarence, Clay, and James Johnson and an infant brother, Delmer Johnson. Mrs. Jurney is survived by her daughter, Jo Ann Millsaps (Bill); two grandchildren, Kent Millsaps (Patty) and Shana Hess (Randy); and three great grandchildren, Zach and Zane Millsaps, and Savannah Hess. She is also survived by three brothers, Raymond, Elmer, and Otis Johnson Jr. and five sisters, Helen Hall, Marie Cash, Carol Smith, Mary Wise, and Pat Stevenson. Funeral services will be held 12:00 Noon, Monday, March 9, 2015 at Rocky Hill Baptist Church with Rev. Henry Cook officiating with Otis Johnson assisting. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will visit with friends at the church prior to the service from 11:00 until 12:00. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Rocky Hill Baptist Church, 823 Mountain View Road, Statesville, NC 28625.
