Phyllis Heruska

Mrs. Phyllis Eleanor Lee Heruska, 91, formerly of Statesville, passed away Sunday, January 26, 2014, at Pennybyrn at Maryfield in High Point, NC Mrs. Heruska was born on March 3, 1922 in New York and was the daughter of the late James William Lee, Jr. and Eleanor Anna Kocher Lee. She attended high school in New Jersey and in 1942 she married George John Heruska who preceded her in death on January 10, 1991. Mrs. Heruska was a member of St. Philip the Apostle Catholic Church where she was very active while her health allowed. She was a member of the Columbiettes and the Rosary Society. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a daughter, Mary Anne Heruska. Mrs. Heruska is survived by four sons, George J. Heruska, Jr. (Beverly) and Joseph P. Heruska (Andrea), both of Statesville, Michael W. Heruska (Betsy) of Winston-Salem, and David N. Heruska (Gail) of Valdosta, GA. She is also survived by three daughters, Phyllis E. Heruska (Paul Owenby) and Ruth Heruska (Kim Clayton), both of Durham, NC, and Jayne M. Davenport (Don) of Colfax, NC. Three sisters, Rosemary Payne, Dolores Lisa, both of NJ, and Marguerite Mitchelli of DE along with 12 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren also surviving. A Mass of Christian Burial will be conducted 11:00 AM Saturday, February 1, 2014, at St. Philip the Apostle Catholic Church with Rev. Father Thomas J. Kessler officiating. Burial will follow in Oakwood Cemetery. The family will visit with friends from 3:00 until 4:30 pm Friday at Nicholson Funeral Home and again Friday evening from 7:00 until 9:00 pm with a Rosary at 8:00 PM at Nicholson Funeral Home. The family requests memorials be made to the Pennybyrn at Maryfield, 109 Penny Rd, High Point, NC 27260.
