Pete Lackey

Avery "Pete" Bryson Lackey, 60, of Statesville, passed away unexpectedly on Wednesday, October 22, 2014. Mr. Lackey was born in Iredell County on October 8, 1954, and was the son of the late Lawrence Lackey and Mildred Irene Moore Lackey. Mr. Lackey was a graduate of North Iredell High School and he was a veteran of the U.S. Army. During his service he served during the Desert Storm Campaign and also served in Korea and Germany. He retired following 22 years of service. Following his retirement, he worked for Terex Utility in Charlotte for 17 years. On July 6, 2003, he married Deborah Cox Lackey, who survives. He was a man who loved helping people. He loved the Boston Red Sox and watching NASCAR and App State Football, but most of all, he loved his family. In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by a son, Avery Bryson Lackey, II. Along with his wife, he is survived by two daughters, Megan Lackey of Wilkes County and Makayla Lackey of the home along with two sons, Daniel and Bryan Lackey, both of the home. He is also survived by two step-sons, Brandon Phillips of the home and Jonathan Phillips of Roanoke, VA. One brother, Jimmy Lackey and one nephew, Michael Lackey, both of Statesville, also survive. A memorial service to honor the life of Pete Lackey will be held 3:00 PM Sunday, October 26, 2014, at Wesley Memorial United Methodist Church with Rev. Danny Leonard officiating. The family will visit with friends at the church following the memorial service. Burial with full military honors will be in the National Cemetery in Salisbury, NC at a later date.
