Peggy Brawley Bristol, 83, of Statesville, died December 4, 2014, at the Gordon Hospice House following an extended illness. Born in Mooresville on January 17, 1931, she was the daughter of the late Robert Lawson and Nannie Smith Brawley. In 1948, she was selected by the city of Mooresville to represent the city as Miss Mooresville in the Carolinas' Christmas Festival in Charlotte. She graduated from Mooresville High School and attended Erskine College. On October 18, 1952, she married H. Cowles (Cokie) Bristol, Jr. who survives. They lived in Texas, Florida, and England and then made their final residence in Statesville. She is survived by four children, Rev. H. Cowles (Cokie) Bristol, III (Missy), Margaret B. Collier, Leslie B. Robinson (Tom), and Mary B. Thomas (Brian). Her 10 grandchildren are Christopher (Beth), Jonathon, and Benton Bristol; Drew and Avery Robinson; Rock and Bristol Marie Collier; and Badin and Macy Thomas, who loved visiting and celebrating holidays at her home. She is also survived by one sister, Sylvia Rogers and brother, Bobby Brawley (Betty) and several nieces and nephews. Peggy was a dedicated homemaker. She later worked at Howard and Brawley Furniture in Mooresville and then at Carolina Home Accessories as an Interior Decorator. Her true love was painting landscapes and floral using various mediums such as watercolors, oils, acrylics, and charcoal. She thoroughly loved studying art at Mitchell Community College where she perfected her talents from visiting artists. She also enjoyed being a member of the Artist Guild of Statesville. She was a lifelong member of Broad Street UMC. Services celebrating Peggy's life will be held 2:00 PM Sunday, December 7, 2014, at Broad Street UMC with Rev. Dr. Michael Gehring and Rev. Jennifer Bingham officiating. Visitation will follow the service. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Gordon Hospice House, 2341 Simonton Road, Statesville, NC 28625 or to Broad Street UMC, 315 W Broad St, Statesville, NC 28677.
