Paul Allen Gaines

February 26, 1941 — January 14, 2017

Mr. Paul Allen Gaines, 75, of Statesville, passed quickly and peacefully into the arms of God from his home on January 14, 2017. Born in Iredell County on February 26, 1941, he was a son of the late Jay Odus Gaines and Frances Coggins Gaines. On March 24, 1989, he married the former Gale McGhee who survives. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Carl Gaines and J. O. Gaines, Jr. and a step son, Brian Cook. He was a member of Front St. Baptist Church and enjoyed gardening, bluegrass guitar playing, cooking and especially enjoyed his Sunday School Class. He was a retired machinist from Southern Furniture Co. and served his country in the U. S. Army National Guard. In addition to his wife, he is survived by a daughter, Shana Swartz (Patrick), 8 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren and a step daughter, Rhonda Adams (Ricky). Also surviving are brothers: David Wayne Gaines, Raymond Gaines and Marvin Gaines, sisters: Doris Ann Finley and Louise Gaines Nicholson and a daughter-in-law, Angela Parsons. Funeral services are scheduled for 3:00 P.M. Tuesday at Front St. Baptist Church with Rev. Daniel Harmon officiating. The family will visit with friends following the service in the sanctuary. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to Hospice & Palliative Care of Iredell County, 2347 Simonton Rd., Statesville, N.C. 28625 or to Front St. Baptist Church, 1403 W. Front St. Statesville, N.C. 28677. Nicholson Funeral Home is entrusted with the arrangements.
