Pastor Jerry Dean Wallace

Pastor Jerry Dean Wallace, 73, of Union Grove, entered his eternal rest on Saturday, June 10, 2017. He was born March 20, 1944, in Iredell County and was the son of the late Willie R. Wallace and Thelma Jarvis Wallace. He was in the last graduating class of Union Grove High School and was a veteran, serving his country honorably in the U.S. Marines from 1969 to 1972. He was in Vietnam from 1971 until 1972 and was an E-5 Sergeant. He was a retired truck driver and chicken farmer. He was married to Brenda Reavis Wallace for 30 years, who survives. Pastor Wallace established A Light In The Darkness Outreach Ministry and pastored there for 17 years. He served a one year mission to Haiti and did 10 years of prison ministry. He loved his church family and he loved his family and was so proud of what they have accomplished. He enjoyed fishing, turtle hunting, and cutting wood for others. He loved his dogs, especially his therapy dog Maggie. But most of all, he loved to tell people about Jesus, right up to the end of his journey. He was a faithful and dedicated servant of the Lord. He had many trials and troubles through the years, but he stayed faithful to the end of his life. In addition to parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Lynn Wallace and Donald Wallace. He is survived by his wife Brenda and two sons, Jeff Wallace (Kelli) and Todd Wallace (Dottie), both of Mocksville. He is further survived by a grandson, Caleb Wallace and a granddaughter, Claire Wallace. A service to celebrate Pastor Wallace's life will be conducted at 4:00 PM Thursday, June 15, 2017, at A Light In The Darkness Outreach Ministry with Minister Ernie Bruce, Minister Joel Cass, and Rev. J.R. Speece officiating. The family will visit with friends from 3:00 until 4:00 PM Thursday at the church. Active pallbearers will be Tom Sturgill, Ray Julian, Caleb Wallace, Charlie Sheets, Bimbo Walker, and Wade Gregory with Neil Sturgill serving as honorary pallbearer. Military graveside rites will be conducted at 11:00 am Friday, June 16, 2017, in the National Cemetery in Salisbury. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to A Light In The Darkness Outreach Ministry Children's Fund, P.O. Box 118, Union Grove, NC 28689.
